Hearts for the Holidays
When behavioral health issues or family dysfunction mean a child can no longer live in the family home, he/she often comes to Great Circle with few belongings. Thus, we work diligently to ensure the children in our care aren’t without some of the basics of childhood.
For example, because children’s feet are always growing, there’s a continual need for new shoes that fit properly. Shoes from the Heart, a nonprofit started by Donnie and Cindy Bonuchi in Macon, MO, has been a consistent partner over the years, providing thousands of dollars in free shoes to children living on our Marshall and Columbia campuses. Based in Washington, MO, Brown’s Enterprises, which owns Missouri’s New Balance stores, also has been making a similar donation of shoes for the last two years to help children on our St. Louis campus.
At the holidays, our focus turns to gifts and winter necessities. Each Great Circle campus collaborates with many wonderful organizations, companies and individuals to ensure the holidays are festive for the children and families have warm clothing, food and presents to open.
Great Circle’s largest holiday collaboration is with Wallis Companies, which owns a total of 67 Mobil On The Run, UGas and Dirt Cheap stores throughout Missouri. Customers bring in gifts for our children and can “hang” a paper ornament with their name inside the store to show support. Supplier Ronnoco Coffee Company sweetens the collaboration by making a monetary donation to Great Circle for each cup of coffee purchased in the stores. This collaboration generates thousands of dollars and gifts for the thousands of children and families Great Circle serves across the state.
