Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Great Circle’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) fills a critical treatment gap to help youth and adolescents stabilize their emotional and behavioral difficulties. Often, hospitalization or residential treatment may seem like the only option, but it’s not.

IOP provides focused, therapeutic services, usually for 4-6 weeks, several days per week, and several hours per day.

IOP programs are available in:

  • Springfield
  • St. Louis

Program Details

For youth who exhibit acute behavioral symptoms, yet don’t require immediate 24/7 supervision, IOP can provide much-needed help while still allowing them to continue a more typical routine.

Treatment is based on each child’s individual needs and a strategic combination of these therapeutic services are applied:

  • Individual/group/family therapy
  • Psychiatric services
  • Medical services
  • Direct supervision

While less intensive than Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Residential Services, this program is helpful for children struggling with regulating emotions or disruptive behaviors, who need more hands-on intervention than can be provided in outpatient therapy.

Biopsychosocial Assessment

Each child receives a thorough assessment designed to gather information about their unique history, current diagnosis (if any), behavior, family history and more. From here, a plan for treatment and aftercare is developed.

Case Management

Our case managers act as the central contact for families, insurance companies, and all departments within Great Circle. The case managers organize treatment, monitor progress and perform utilization review updates with health plan representatives.

Therapy Services

  • Family therapy is a critical component of this program and is provided in-person, if possible, at least weekly by a master-level therapist. Additional family engagement and treatment may also be supported via video, phone and other communication methods depending on location and family availability.
  • Group Therapy is provided multiple times each week by master-level therapists.
  • Individual psychotherapy is provided weekly by a master-level therapist.

Psychiatric Services

A thorough initial assessment is completed with DSM-V diagnosis. Individual sessions with client and consultation with individual therapist/case manager for medication checks and updated diagnosis will be provided according to the client’s specific needs. Collaboration with outpatient psychiatry is available for clients already being managed by an outside practice. Nursing services are provided as needed and staff is trained in proper medication management and dispensation.

Process groups focus on emotion regulation, social skills, anger management, conflict resolution, self-esteem building and etc. Recreational services will be provided throughout the day. Snacks and meals are provided.
